Getting married is a big step even if you have been living together or in a relationship for a long time. Sometimes the very reasons that you decided to get married get sidelined due to the excitement and stress of planning a wedding.
The couples I work with primarily report coming to premarital counseling for 3 reasons (aside from pastor or parents think it’s a good idea!):
1) They want to better understand their partner.
2) They want to make sure they are asking each other the right questions.
3) They want to learn better conflict resolution skills for the future.
Premarital counseling has been found to increase the chances of satisfaction and success for couples in the early stages of marriage. Premarital counseling is the best gift that you can give your future spouse. It supports you as a couple in keeping your relationship in the forefront, provides a safe space for dealing with wedding stress, and brings a deeper level of intimacy and understanding that will carry you happily into the future.
